The Province Chapter is a privileged time in the history of a province. Through dialogue and prayer the chapter assesses the life of the province, renews its fidelity to the charism, and plans for the future. It calls each sister to openness, conversion and greater zeal so that the unique gift of Christ, the Shepherd, may overflow into the Church and the world. (Constitution 96)
As part of the chapter process, Pre-Chapter meetings provide space and time for deep listening to oneself and to each other on the realities of today and the priorities for the future. Pre-Chapter meetings provide the opportunity for lay partners-in-mission to contribute to the Province Chapter. This process acknowledges that sisters and partners-in-mission are together co-responsible for the effectiveness and sustainability of Good Shepherd Mission into the future.
On the 16th November 2019, 36 capitulants of Central East India/ Nepal Province gathered for our 2nd Province Chapter, held from 16-23 November in Nagpur, Maharashtra. We were indeed blessed with the presence of CLT members Srs. Josita and Frances also Bro. Philip Pinto cfc, our competent facilitator.
We began with a meaningful opening prayer with the chapter theme “Embraced by Mystery, Passionate for Justice” followed by the orientation for the chapter. The next five days saw us working with following themes “Shepherding Mission Partnership, Passionate for Justice, Leadership and Discernment, Servant Leadership and Envisioning the new path”.
Every morning we began the day with the celebration of the Eucharist and a well prepared opening prayer before starting the day’s sessions. The constant reminder by the liturgy group and the facilitator of the in dwelling God helped us to be in touch with the Spirit of God in us and among us. This was a great help in the smooth running of the proceedings of the Chapter and the election process. We could sense the vibrant presence of a loving God, a God of abundance guiding and providing.
Sister Pushpa Louis accepted the role as our new Province Leader. After finishing all the formalities of the chapter on the 22nd evening, we had the installation mass for our new Leadership Srs. Pushpa Louis, Kala Hermanajilt, Mary Jose, Shanthi Jaganathan and Annie Thomas on 23rd at noon which was a joyful celebration of thanksgiving.
