I was born in Yanggu, Gang Won Province, South Korea in 1963. When I was a college student I was the leader of the Catholic University Student Council. At that time, one of our activities was to teach the Catholic Catechism to young soldiers who wanted to become Catholics. So I invited a Good Shepherd Sister to help us in our mission, and from that time I have known the Sisters. When it came to discerning a religious vocation, it was so natural that I decided to join the Good Shepherd Sisters I had known.
I made my perpetual profession in 2000. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master’s in Theology. At present, I am the Northeast Asia Province contact person of APMDO/GSIF.
My ministry experience includes work in residential program for teenagers and in the Life-movement in Seoul Diocese as a director. For many years I was the Coordinator of the Teen STAR (Sexuality Teaching in the context of Adult Responsibility) Korea. I have also served as formation directress for candidates. Over the years, I served on the province leadership team and as the Province Leader of the Northeast Asia Province.
My mandate as province leader began on 2nd February 2014 and finished on 21st January 2020. There were many new and enriching experiences during this period of time. Significant events included celebrating the 50th anniversary of Korea Good Shepherd and the 50th anniversary of Marycove School in Hong Kong.
As Province Leader, I was able to participate more deeply in the life of the sisters not only through the administration of the province but also accompaniment of sisters during their times of spiritual and physical challenges and happiness. Also, the experience for which I was most grateful was to be able to be more in solidarity with the global community through engagement with the Asia Pacific Circle and the Congregational Leadership Team.
I am deeply grateful that due to God's grace, the partnership of the Province Leadership Team and the prayerful support of the sisters I was able to faithfully complete the role. I pray that the Lord will make up all of my shortcomings during my term as province leader. I will live joyfully and faithfully in the places where I will be sent in the future.
The Province of Northeast Asia was the first in the Asia Pacific region to hold its Chapter from 10 – 18 October, 2019 and Sister Stella Rhee was elected as new Province Leader
