Province Chapter, Indonesia

 A privileged time....

The Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd will hold its Congregational Chapter in 2021.  In preparation for this, Province Chapters are being held in every province commencing in 2019, and a number of Intercontinental Assemblies (ICAs) are being planned for 2020.

Province Chapter

The Province Chapter is a privileged time in the history of a province.  Through dialogue and prayer the chapter assesses the life of the province, renews its fidelity to the charism, and plans for the future.  It calls each sister to openness, conversion and greater zeal so that the unique gift of Christ, the Shepherd, may overflow into the Church and the world.    (Constitution 96)

Pre-Chapter meetings

As part of the chapter process, Pre-Chapter meetings provide space and time for deep listening to oneself and to each other on the realities of today and the priorities for the future.  Pre-Chapter meetings provide the opportunity for lay partners-in-mission to contribute to the Province Chapter.  This process acknowledges that sisters and partners-in-mission are together co-responsible for the effectiveness and sustainability of Good Shepherd Mission into the future.

The 6th Indonesian Chapter was held on 2 – 8 February 2020 at Wisma Syantikara Yogyakarta with the theme ‘FIRED BY LOVE TOGETHER FOR MISSION’. The Chapter was facilited by Sr. Anne Dalton and Ms.Theresa Symons as co – facilitators. Sr. Zelna Oosthuizen was present as link person of the Congregational Leadership Team. Attended by 26 sisters and 7 lay mission partners, all participants were fired by compassionate love of Jesus the Good Shepherd in sharing their wisdom to reflect and discern the future of Good Shepherd mission in Indonesia.  See photo above

It is the time where the whole Province are united in hearts to determine priorities and direction for the future of the Province and to live out the mission effectively.  As Good Shepherd partners in the mission, we experienced the spirit of oneness in owning the mission. In the atmosphere of dialogue, reflection, and prayer we journeyed together. Walking as companions for each other, we listened to the Holy Spirit who led us to the will of God.

The process during the Province Chapter was filled with moments of blessings. Every one having the truth which is part of the whole truth, in the process of discernment and reflection. We are enriched by looking at it from various perspectives, enabling us to have better understanding to respond to every situation. With humble heart we reached to the final decision by respecting every difference as a part of the discernment process to fulfil the will of God to be faithful to the Good Shepherd mission.

After journeying together for three days in the Chapter, our hearts were filled with gratitude as we entered the closing ritual for lay Partners in Mission who will go back to the mission, ‘If you love one another, if you uphold one another, you will able to make a miracle.' (St. M. Euphrasia) What a precious moment it was! How beautiful the call of Jesus the Good Shepherd to each one of us. The spirit of complementarity was alive. Though our call is different, we live it out in the same spirit and charism. The spirit of Jesus the Good Shepherd which is love, fires us to do his will through the mission that He has entrusted to us.

Our commitment and fidelity to the Good Shepherd mission was renewed as we came to the end of the Province Chapter with new Province Leadership Team elected in the Chapter: Sisters Alfonsa Sudaryanti (Province Leader) and Flora Bude, Magdalena Rini, Endah Lestari and Tasiana Susilowati.

We brought our hope for the future of Good Shepherd mission in Indonesia to the Altar. Asking for God’s blessing as a Province, we move together, innovate, participate, ready to be responsible for the sustainability of the mission. Fired by love, every mission partner is called to develop the mission together towards "Good Shepherd One Voice".
